NEGAA Training Day
North & East Gippsland Axemen’s Association recently conducted a well attended and successful Training Day.
With 22 attendees there were three Junior choppers, one who has competed a couple of times, one who hadn’t competed but had cut a few logs off at home and one who had never picked up a sharp axe previous to the day.
Also there were two adults who have never competed, one had cut half a log previously, the other was a total newcomer to the sport. There were also several of our newer members there for some tips from the coaches and cutting experience. We also managed to get one mum on a crosscut saw for her first ever try.
Underhand, Standing Block, Crosscut Sawing and Chain sawing advice and coaching were offered.
As a result of this day the Association expects to have at least three new competitors at Orbost show. Two, Anthony Wright and Chris Bittner will participate in the Novice Underhand and one, Mitchell Davis will compete in the Juniors.
The Association was very pleased with the interest shown in our sport and is intending to conduct another such day later in year – possibly October so watch for the date.
